WARNING: Women Should Stop Eating Instant Ramen

There are 52 countries that consumed almost 100 billion servings of instant noodles last 2015. Instant noodles are indeed a significant part of many people’s diet. In fact, there’s even one girl who ate only ramen for 13 years.

If you’re among the many instant ramen eaters, your health may be in danger. According to the recent Baylor research, convenient food products, including ramen, can increase cardiometabolic syndrome risk, particularly in women.

The research is published in The Journal of Nutrition and aims to shed light on the problems associated with the dietary habits of the world. Ramen is a favorite among Asian populations and therefore their consumption is relatively high.

The research focused on South Koreans who have been recorded to have the highest per capita number of ramen consumers in the world. The researchers studied 10,711 South Koreans who were between 19 to 64 years old.

Even before the study, other sources have cited that South Koreans have seen a huge increase in health issues, most especially heart disease. There are also a growing number of obese adults.

Why Instant Noodles are So Unhealthy

You probably already heard about instant ramen as a bane to human health. Based on the Harvard research, along with other studies, instant noodles have the following issues:

The noodles are made of precooked dried noodles, seasoning oil, and flavoring powder.

Aside from the lack of ingredients, they also don’t have real nutrients that can promote good health, such as fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals.

Instant ramen is simply full of saturated fat and simple carbohydrates.

According to a study performed at Harvard University and Baylor University, scientists have discovered that eating instant noodles habitually can cause health problems, such as stroke and heart disease.

The study also found that women who consume ramen are at risk of developing metabolic syndrome, which is a condition that may result in high blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Men, on the other hand, did not experience
the same effect on their health. This may be due to the biological differences between men and women, according to the researchers.

The scientists identified tertiary-butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ) as the main culprit of metabolic syndrome.

We all know that instant noodles are a convenient food for many people. Such as college students and those who are on a budget. Occasionally, this popular food may not cause terrifying health problems. But habitual consumption can increase metabolic syndrome, especially in women because the instant noodles are high in unhealthy saturated fats, sodium, and glycemic loads.
